Saturday Scrappin; All About Me...

Today has been a great day. I got an order from A Cherry On Top, and I also went to Hobby Lobby for a little bit of shopping. They had lots of new stuff! So basically, I've been surrounded by brand new goodies, with inspiration everywhere! I have finished one page, and started a second, but I feel like stopping so I'll finish that one up tomorrow.. What I made today was a "Me" layout. I can have trouble with those. I did find a pic I liked, and I decided to go with the "Me @ age" theme that is pretty popular. I like this because it's to the point and captures a moment of time. These are the things I like RIGHT NOW. I really wish I had done some of these several years ago. Now that I know I like them, I hope to do more in the future!
So what have you scrapped today?

Girl Gone Red..

A wee bit different than "Girl Gone Wild," but it's the same premise! Last weekend I colored my hair red again, the first time in almost a year! I had been having trouble finding my favorite red color, and had to try a new brand. I finally settled on Garnier Light Intense Auburn, and let me tell you, it absolutely IS me. Love this color, it gives me confidence and makes me feel like me, if you know what I mean.

I managed to get some self-portraits of the new color, and so I had to scrap one of them to celebrate a few things. The new color needed celebrated, but hey, so did what I consider,a great pic of myself! So I did it, keeping within the neutrality of black/white and then the punch of red for spunk. I really love this, what do you think??

Shabby little frame

The weekend is here! YAY! I am enjoying a "free" weekend, as the kiddos went to their grandparents' house for a sleepover. I started my scrappy day by altering a frame for a Facebook swap with friends. We had to buy one of those inexpensive dollar frames that most craft stores have, and alter it WITHOUT using a specific theme.

I found a cute 8 x 8 frame that fit the bill for 97 cents. Can't beat that price! I used gesso and newspaper to cover it, then coated the entire thing with plenty of Mod Podge. Love the effect! I went with one of my favorite color combos on this: Turquoise, yellow, and green. I added a journaling spot as well, figuring that whomever receives this baby will appreciate that I allowed for a small place to personalize it to suit their chosen photo. I really hope this makes someone happy, and I cannot wait to see the frame I will be getting in return!

Coloring eggs..(and a layout how-to!)

Happy "Easter Eve!"

Today we colored eggs for Easter. The kids always have so much fun doing this! Just getting their hands dirty makes them ridiculously happy. I guess they really DO take after me, LOL!

After the egg coloring though, they went outside for play time, so momma got to "play" too! I wanted to scrap one of the above photos, but I had to do it my way. That means, I turned the photo black & white. I know, I know! "BUT.... Rebecca it's Easter, and they are coloring eggs, so WHY don't you make those photos color?" Well, to be honest, I felt I could get a more "colorful" page through technique rather than relying on just the photo, and I'll show you how I did it too. Here's the final layout, I really love it!

To make a page like this, you need to love color, and not be afraid of paint. You also need a bit of patience. But rest assured, if you take the time and put in the effort, a beautiful page will be the reward.

To begin, gather all the colors of the rainbow, plus "eleventy"..(LOL!) Why? You need to have enough colors to cover a 12" span, and I ended up with 12 colors, so it is about one inch per color. You can totally keep this in just one or two color families if that is your choice, just make sure you have plenty of shades of said colors, as that makes the final product very pleasing to the eye.

To do a layout like this, you need to have a little bit of control. The first part is easy. Print an 8 x 10 black & white photo. Mat it on black cardstock, and adhere that to a 12 x 12 piece of white cardstock. You can center it, or pull it off center either to the left or right(as I did). Then the fun begins..

Again, you need to CONTROL your paint application, so I recommend going ONE color at a time. I began on the left hand side of the page. I watered down my paint so it would be very runny and easy to manipulate. Place a bit at the top, and then pick up your layout and allow the paint to run. When you want it to stop, lay the page down and let it sit. IF you have a heat embossing tool, you can speed up this process by lightly drying/setting the paint. It doesn't need to be completely dry, just dry enough so that when you pick your layout up again, the previous color SHOULD NOT RUN....

Continue with the above steps until ALL the colors have been completed. Don't be afraid to allow some of the paint to run onto your photo. It will be OK, I promise! You have to take those kinds of chances with paint. Honestly, if you have the right mindset, there is no way you can make a mistake!

Is this a technique you think you might try? Let me know, and if you do it, link up your layout. I wanna see!

HAPPY EASTER!!

Biker Boy..

My son got a Razor bike for his fifth birthday a few weeks ago. He rides it ALL the time and looks so cute doing so! Today I scrapped one of my favorite photos of him on the bike. I think he just looks like a cool dude, lol. I built this layout on a die cut paper from We R Memory Keepers. I applied some paint first, then added the photo, some red stars, and a few chipboard gears from Basically Bare. I love the fun feel of this page!

What did YOU scrap today??

Sunday is RAK day!

So today I did some reorganizing of my scrappy storage and I stumbled upon a ton of chipboard pieces. I've had these awhile, and while I love them, I don't see myself "needing" them anytime soon. I figured it would be best to pass these along to someone who would really love and use them. Is that someone YOU?

I have a ton to give away, so I decided to split it up. Here are the details: I am giving away TWO RAKs of random chipboard shapes. You will not be able to choose which set you receive, let me choose for you! Here are some pictures..

Set one..

Set two..

All you have to do is leave a comment here for me by Monday, March 19th 2012 and you'll be in the running for one of TWO RAKs! I will be drawing names on Tuesday the 20th for the winners...

But WAIT! There is MORE! If I get to 30 comments I'll be throwing in yet ANOTHER RAK! Cool, right? I told ya, I have a TON to give away! Here's a pic of RAK number three..

So get out there and help spread the word on this RAK via facebook, your blog, twitter, anything you can think of. Remember, if I get thirty comments there are THREE chances to win and those are great odds! Are you in?! Happy Sunday my friends and good luck!!
